The best part of being a nurse is making a meaningful impact on patients' lives, especially during their most challenging moments, says Hailey Burleson, nurse and Camosun grad. Nursing combines precision of technical skills with compassion and empathy.

Her path to nursing began in grade 10 when she started exploring potential career paths. I was drawn to fields like nursing and physiotherapy that were hands-on, patient-focused, and offered job security, flexible hours, and a good work-life balance, says Hailey.

After careful consideration, she chose the Health Care Assistant program, as a valuable stepping stone toward her goal of becoming a registered nurse. Through the South Island Partnership (SIP) dual-credit program, she was able to start on her journey while still in high school.

Dont be afraid to try something new and explore a career youre curious about."

It really helped me transition into post-secondary education, says Hailey. And the best part was the support I received throughout. The SIP staff were helpful in bridging the gap between high school and college.

Her advice? Dont be afraid to try something new and explore a career youre curious about. I did, and now Im in a career I enjoy and feel confident about.
