Students from Camosun's Professional Chef training program have the opportunity to hone their skills at the Dec. 9 banquet at Interurban.

鈥淭he banquet is a wonderful opportunity for Professional Cook students to learn more about traditional Ukrainian dishes, and also support the community,鈥 says David Lang, Chair of Culinary Arts. 鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be a fun and tasty evening for everyone.鈥

Hosted at Interurban鈥檚 Helmut Huber Cook Training Centre on Dec. 9, the is a collaboration between the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, Victoria and 吃瓜爆料, with local chefs and restaurants supporting the event. An impressive spread of traditional and regional based Ukrainian food awaits guests through the presentation of a four-course meal carefully curated to offer a taste of flavours from across the country.

For event coordinator and Camosun alumni Christoph Koniczek, the event resonates personally. After seeing the work being done providing food and water to residents of Lviv by World Central Kitchen, he wanted to help. By combining his skills from Camosun with his local business connections, Koniczek knew that this would be the perfect occasion for Camosun, the local culinary community, food enthusiasts, the Ukraine community to come together and do something special.

鈥淔ood has always been a central part of my identity. My Oma taught me to be kind, generous and set the table for those in need,鈥 says Koniczek, who sees this as the first of many opportunities for the local food scene to prioritize philanthropy. 鈥淲e have quite the spread prepared, which we鈥檝e created by working with local Ukrainian chefs and connections. As a foodie myself, I can鈥檛 express how excited I am to try it all!鈥
