Camosun Grading Systems

GPA stands for Grade Point Average.泭Each letter grade is assigned a point value which is called the Grade Point.

Camosun Grading Systems

Camosun has two grading systems: the standard 9-point system for most academic, technical and career-based programs, and a competency-based system for skills-based programs. There are also temporary grades that can be assigned for specific circumstances.

Standard grading system

  • A = Exceptional achievement
  • B+ = Very good achievement
  • C+ = Satisfactory achievement
  • D = Minimum level of achievement for which credit is granted; a course with a D grade cannot be used as a prerequisite
  • F = Minimum level has not been achieved

Calculating your GPA

You can find your unofficial GPA information on .

Your transcript of marks will show two different grade point averages:

  • Term GPA泭is the point average of your grades over one semester
  • Cumulative GPA泭is the point average of your grades over all the academic courses you have taken at Camosun

The GPA is calculated by converting each letter grade into Grade Points and then multiplying each grade by the number of course credits.

Here is an example:

CourseCreditLetter GradeGrade PointsGrade Points x Credit
C13A-77*3 = 21
C23B+66*3 = 18
C34C+33*4 = 12
C42A88*2 = 16
C53C22*3 = 6
Total1573

Your GPA is = (GPA*Credit)/Total Credits. In this example, your GPA would be泭73/15泭or泭4.87 GPA.
